What is the Valentine’s Day Abseil?

Join us for a unique outdoor experience on Saturday 14 February from 8:00–11:00 am on Castle Hill. You’ll be guided through a thrilling abseil down the 100 meter main rock face, taking in panoramic views of Townsville while enjoying a fun, safe adventure.

Where do we meet?

Please arrive 10-15min prior to your scheduled starting time so we can sign you in and give you the safety briefing as well as demonstration. Drive up to the top carpark of Castle Hill or if no spots available, utilise the lower car park and walk to the top carpark. You will see one of our Outer Limits staff at the top who will sign you in and provide you with your equipment.

Who can participate?

All adults and teens who feel comfortable with a moderate adventure activity. Minimum age is 16 years. Maximum weight is 120kg.
No prior abseiling experience is necessary — qualified instructors will guide you through every step.
Participants must be able to follow safety instructions and be physically able to descend the rock face.
Once you are at the bottom of the abseil, you will have to walk up the Goat Track to get back to the carpark. Basic fitness required.

What should I wear?

To ensure safety and comfort, please wear:
✔ Comfortable, active outdoor clothing – no short shorts
✔ Closed-toe shoes (runners or sturdy trainers are ideal)
✔ Clothes that cover shoulders and legs (avoid loose items that could catch on gear)
✔ Hair tied back, and minimal jewellery

✘ Avoid:
❌ Sandals or open-toed shoes
❌ Loose jewellery or accessories
❌ Clothing that could interfere with gear or movement

What should I bring?

Please bring the following:
💧 Water bottle — stay hydrated on the hill
🧢 Sun protection (hat & sunscreen)
🎒 Small bag for personal items

Everything else you need (harness, helmet, safety gear) will be provided on the day.

What happens on the day?

• Arrive about 10–15 minutes early to check in and get fitted with your safety gear — harness, helmet and gloves.
• You’ll be taken through a short safety briefing and shown how to control your descent.
• Qualified instructors will be with you at the top and bottom of the abseil.

Is this suitable for Valentine’s Day spectators?

Yes! Friends, family or your Valentine are welcome to come along and watch the action. It’s a great morning out — watch others abseil then celebrate with a picnic or breakfast in the park afterwards.
