Intermediate Holiday Camp
Intermediate Holiday Camp

The Intermediate Camp is a school holiday camp designed for children aged 10-15 years. They love the outdoors and would like to learn more outdoor skills in a fun and safe environment. It is required that they have attended one of our Junior Camps previously and are physically capable to carry their own backpack and have good riding skills on the mountain bike. If they have not attended one of our camps previously, please give us a call to discuss if this camp is suited for your child.

During the 4 day/3 night camp, we are taking a group on a journey through the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics Rainforest. We will embark on a 17km hike to a private shelter nestled in the middle of the rainforest next to a creek. The next day the group makes their way to the Paluma Dam, where we set up our next camp and spend the day on the water with the kayaks. The following day the group gets onto the mountain bikes and they will ride all the way back to where they started on day one. Once arrived at the Paluma Adventure Centre the group gets to explore the High Ropes Course and play games of Archery Tag. Along the way there are many amazing places to explore in Paluma Range National Park.

What we do

The Adventure Camp will see one group of 20 kids plus their instructors and group leaders moving from one camp to the next.

The group gets to spend a day playing on the high ropes course, learning how to climb and safely belay others. They also get to scale the walls and roof in our climbing cave. We will make sure the adrenalin will be pumping once we get them to jump off the 12m Leap of Faith and launching them into the air on the Glider Possum.

The fun does not stop here. We have a big hike ahead of us, walking 17km from the Adventure Centre to the DCK Shelter, a private hut situated in the middle of the rainforest, where we set up camp for the night. Along the way we come across old tin mining sites, adventurous creek crossings and the spectacular Big Crystal Falls.

“Outside your comfort zone is where you grow”

The next morning, we leave early to hike to Paluma Dam, where we spend the day indulging in water sports. After kayaking on the dam, we are cooking burgers for lunch and then test our knot tying skills in the raft building challenge. Two teams will race each other to the other bank and back again, let’s hope the rafts hold up all the way to the finish line.

We set up camp at the dam and cook dinner on the camp fire. After telling camp stories and roasting marshmallows for desert, we test their leadership skills and team work on a night walk through the rainforest.

The next morning, we get on the mountain bikes and ride 15km back to Paluma. We will have a well deserved lunch and if the kids have any energy left, we will play one big game of archery tag.
